In a recent statement towards shareholders, BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer revealed that the BMW Group hasn’t ruled out the option of purchasing a forth brand providing of course that it meets certain criteria’s like to at least make the same contribution to earnings as its existing automobile business. Reihofer’s statement has since sparked a serious of rumours including the revival of Triumph. The German carmaker had acquired the rights to the British marque when it bought MG Rover in 1994. Now Brit magazine Autoexpress is supporting that it “can exclusively uncover exciting plans by BMW to bring back one of Britain’s best-loved marques". Wishful thinking or inside information? Well, in our opinion, Autoexpress' article is a bit vague leaving both options open. In any case, the Brits created a few renderings featuring a modern interpretation of the Triumph TR that aims towards Mazda’s highly successful MX-5/Miata.
