Audi Celebrates 100th Anniversary with $20k+ Chronograph

In commemoration of the company's 100th birthday, German carmaker Audi has created a limited edition wristwatch-chronograph called Tachoscope that will be built in a total of 100 units - one for each year in the firm's history. The 35 platinum and 65 white-gold wristwatches were conceived by Audi Design and Chronoswiss, a Munich-based watchmaker. The most prominent feature of the Audi centennial timepiece is its dial, which is made of genuine enamel and is inspired by the instrumentation of the legendary Auto Union racing cars.

The dial is dominated by the second hand's numerals, which are reminiscent of the tachometers in the Type C Grand Prix racing car of the 1930s. Other notable details include the crown in the shape of a gearwheel and the rotor that features an engraving that proclaims the centennial anniversary and is visible through the glass back cover of the case.

The price for the platinum wristwatches has been set at a hefty €24,900 or with the current exchange rates, US$33,600 US while the wristwatch in white-gold, at €14.900 or US$20,100.
