Next BMW Z4 To Be Built In Germany And Not The US

According to a report from “Just-Auto”, a BMW spokesperson confirmed today that the second generation Z4 model which is due to be unveiled either towards the end of 2008 or early 2009, will be built in BMW’s German plant in Regensburg instead of Spartanburg, US, where the current Z4 model is built and so was the previous Z3 model.

However this doesn’t mean that the South Carolina plant in Spartanburg will decrease its output, the opposite, as BMW intends to increase annual production from 140,000 units to more than 200,000. This is due to the fact that the Spartanburg plant will focus on building BMW’s SUVs. Apart from the X5 BMW also intends to produce the X6 (from 2008) along with the second generation X3 (from 2010) in Spartanburg. The current X3 has been assembled by Magna-Steyr in Austria since 2003.
