Jaguar XJC Coupe Classic Seeks Hip Cat to Pose Alongside

Every car enthusiast has their obsessions. For some it's '50s Chevys or '30s Fords; for others it's Chargers or Beamers or just about anything else you can think of. For me, it's Jaguars. I don't know why exactly. Could it be because they're big, affordable British luxury cars with sporting pretensions? You know, Bentleys for the upper middle class.

And there's more. I don't think there's a Jaguar I don't like. I'm even a fan of the bloated, much maligned XJS of the '70s, '80s and even '90s. So surely I'd be interested in this black, mostly stock 1976 Jaguar XJC Coupe? Here's the thing:

Other than the colour, year and what we can derive of the car's condition from looking at the photos, there's really no information on this car. How many miles it's done, what modifications have been made etcetera. All things a potential buyer would want to know. And as a Jaguar aficionado, I know that '70s Jags are bad enough before you start tinkering with them.

So maybe I'll pass on this one (besides, Connecticut is a few thousand miles further away from me than I'd like). Though if you are a Jaguar fan and live close to Motorcars Incorporated's lot in Plainville, you can pick up this potential gem for just US$27,500 (€20,114). Not a bad haul for an old cat.

Jaguar Recalling 6,475 XJ Sedans in the States Due to Faulty Windshield Wipers

When you're sitting behind the wheel of a new Jaguar XJ, it would appear that no rainy day could affect your mood. Well, except for those 6,475 U.S.-spec units manufactured between July 28, 2009 and November 3, 2010, on which the front wiper arms weren't sufficiently torqued during assembly. Consequently, Jaguar has issued a recall for the affected cars, according to a NHTSA press release.

The safety agency said on its website that during operation, the securing nuts could fail, resulting in a loss of synchronization and ultimately lead to a clash [sic] of the wiper arms. Furthermore, the wipers could detach from the car and leave the driver blind in the middle of the pouring rain. And that can't be good, especially at highway speeds.

So, dealers will check if the wipers arms are fitted correctly onto the spindle and the securing nuts will be tightened. As with most recalls, the fix will be carried out free of charge.

The recall is set to begin on or before December 13, 2010. For more information owners can call Jaguar at 800-637-6837 or the NHTSA hot line at 888-327-4236.

Arden Takes On the New Jaguar XJ Saloon

The all-new Jaguar XJ is one of those cars you either love or hate. There is no middle ground with this strange mix of old and new, of traditionalism and modern manufacturing techniques. Now German tuners Arden, perhaps best known these days for tuning Jaguars, Minis and Land Rovers, have returned to their roots and taken the big cat for another turn around the workshop.

The XJ's exterior gets a subtle bodykit, stainless steel mesh grille, LED fog lights, 21-inch alloys and the brand's now defunct leaping cat emblem. It's the interior, though, where things start to get interesting. Customers can specify a whole host of options including several varieties of Connolly Leather or Alcantara as well as carbon, chrome or wood for the trim. Dynamic interior lighting helps further accentuate the Arden Jag from the norm.

The full details are all rather sketchy at the moment, including what modifications were done to the XJ's 5.0 L petrol and 3.0 L diesel engines, though hopefully these will be released at a later date. Until then you can sit back and admire our fine gallery of photos from Arden's website.

New Jaguar XJ Sentinel Armored Version to Debut at Moscow Show

Jaguar is rounding out the all-new XJ series with an armored special protection version called the Sentinel, which will be revealed for the first time in public at the upcoming 2010 Moscow International Motor Show (Aug. 25-29). The new XJ Sentinel is aimed at those who for whatever reason fear for their life, promising to stop attacks ranging from .9mm hand guns to explosives.

The XJ Sentinel is beefed up with extra high-strength steel with Kevlar backing that was engineered in partnership with armoring specialist, Centigon, offering ballistic protection up to B7 level (BS EN 1522 level FB7 and BS EN 1063 BR7-), blast protection against 15kg (33 pounds) of TNT equivalent detonated within close proximity of the vehicle, and substantial under floor grenade protection.

It rides on strengthened 19-inch Aleutian Alloy Wheels with 245/45 19" Dunlop Self Supporting Technology Run on Flat tires.

Despite the added protection, Jaguar says the Sentinel is "virtually indistinguishable" from the standard XJ model.

The car is based on the long wheelbase version of the XJ saloon with power coming from a 385HP 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. According to the company, it completes the 0 to 100km/h (62mph) sprint in 9.7 seconds and achieves a top speed of 195km/h (121mph).

To cope with the increased body weight (the Sentinel tips the scales at 3,800kg or 8,377 lbs), the firm's engineers up-rated and re-tuned the suspension and steering wheel systems, and added a more powerful braking system sourced from the 510HP Supercharged (non-armored) XJ model.

"The XJ Sentinel is the ultimate armoured luxury limousine," said Mike O'Driscoll, Managing Director at Jaguar Cars. "It offers governments, security organisations and private individuals, the highest level of security, with advanced design, refined performance and a beautifully-crafted cabin. The XJ Sentinel will be the vehicle of choice for the most discerning," he added.

Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Sports Concept Celebrates [Again] firm's 75th Anniversary at Pebble Beach

It's become somewhat common knowledge at this point that Jaguar is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, but just in case the limited edition XKR175 Coupe doesn't spread the word at this weekend's Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance in California, Jaguar also readied the XJ75 Platinum concept.

The concept study is based on the long-wheelbase XJ with power derived from a completely stock 5.0-liter Supercharged direct-injection V8 with 470HP and 424 lb.-ft of torque.

While the engine and suspension parts are left unchanged, the design concept gets a revised exterior and interior. The outside of the car is dominated by a white and black contrast theme, as well as a body kit with a ground-hugging front spoiler, and rear and side sills.

Jaguar's design team also refinished the chrome trim elements of the XJ to a dark chrome and gloss black shade, and added bespoke 22-inch alloy wheels in a brushed contrast finish.

The same color theme continues inside with gloss pearlescent white air vents, veneers and diamond stitch suede inserts to the seats and headliner. Additional suede and leather accents used throughout the interior, and a bespoke clock developed and designed in partnership with the Bremont Watch Company, complete the styling upgrades.

"The new Jaguar XJ Platinum Concept celebrates Jaguar's 75th Anniversary, and highlights the uniqueness of the XJ, and more broadly, the increasingly personal nature of luxury cars in today's market," said Mike O'Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar.
